Harvey Milk’s 90th Birthday
Celebrating Harvey Milk and the generations of LGBTQ elders that made space for queer folks in the future. This collaborative effort presented live drag featuring powerhouse drag queens performing for Openhouse residents. Presented by Openhouse in collaboration with the SF Queer Nightlife Fund, and the Tenderloin Museum.
Happy Birthday, Harvey!
“Drag is powerful in that way—it thrives on audience connection and interaction—and so this is us saying nothing can stop us from connecting with our seniors and we will do it in the most meaningful way,” said Openhouse Executive Director, Karyn Skultety. With this year being the 90th birthday of the late gay supervisor Harvey Milk, the first LGBTQ person elected to public office in San Francisco, local LGBTQ leaders hosted a virtual block party, which included a LIVE drag show, hosted across the Openhouse courtyards for residents of 55 and 95 Laguna.
Paying homage to the LGBTQ pioneer who helped shape the world for younger generations—and who would have been part of the vulnerable community of LGBTQ elders—this special show helped kick-off a series of events celebrating Harvey’s legacy. This performance featured Dulce De Leche, Per Sia, Princess Panocha, Mary Vice, and Shane Zaldivar!
