Level Up Your Cultural Competency
2SLGBTQ+ (two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer) older adults face unique challenges as they age. As a leader in working with queer older adults, Openhouse has developed the Culture of Care training series to give caregivers the tools they need to care for their clients with dignity, understanding, and compassion.
Unique Curriculum, Flexible Learning
Perspectives from Elders
Culture of Care draws directly from the lived experience of 2SLGBTQ+ elders telling their own stories, in their own words.
Learn on your Schedule
Our online learning portal allows you to dive in whenever your schedule allows. You can pause and return at any time, giving you flexibility in your continued education.
Accessibility for All
Trainings are available online in English, Spanish, Tagalog, and Cantonese, and captioned for accessibility. In-person trainings are available in both English and Spanish.
Choose Your Own Adventure
Culture of Care features three unique trainings, featuring stories told by nine LGBTQ+ elders, so that you can learn from their lived experiences. And training modules are purchased a-la-carte, so you get everything you need, and nothing you don’t.
Living Histories: 2SLGBTQ+ Political Identities
Delve into the historical struggles and triumphs of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, guided by the wisdom of our elders. This program is essential for organizations looking to elevate their diversity and inclusion initiatives and shape a more equitable future.
Containing Multitudes: Gender Expansive Stories
Challenge Western notions of gender and embrace the richness of Indigenous and non-Western gender identities. This training equips your team with the tools to create truly inclusive spaces for individuals of all gender identities.
Adapting to Evolve
Empower caregivers to provide affirming care for 2SLGBTQ+ elders. Through conversations and shared experiences, participants will learn how to navigate daily tasks with respect and dignity, contributing to a world where every elder is seen, valued, and cared for with compassion.
Over 100 caregivers have already taken the Culture of Care course, many providing feedback that they now have a greater degree of compassion and understanding for LGBTQ+ elders’ experiences, as well as how to provide higher quality of care for them.
25 Years of Expertise Serving LGBTQ+ Elders
Since 1998, Openhouse has helped LGBTQ+ older adults overcome the unique challenges they face as they age. We provide housing, direct services, and community programs, and now we’re sharing our expertise with caregivers of all types to increase competence when working with LGBTQ+ adults.
